The Unfinished Museum
THE UNFINISHED MUSEUM
Could this exist one day?
The Unfinished Museum is my dream for a future visitor attraction — a busy, playful, slightly bonkers place where art, craft, storytelling, nature and imagination all meet.
I don't imagine a quiet museum where you shuffle from object to object reading little labels.
I imagine people everywhere.
Families arriving for the day. Children making things. Artists working in open workshops. People exploring strange rooms, watching films, eating in the café, wandering through gardens, sitting quietly in a Circle or discovering something completely unexpected around the next corner.
The collection would grow out of the strange assortment of things I have made, collected and imagined throughout my life: cabinetmaking, paintings, sculpture, scallop shells, the Muses, Psalms & Swims, the Circle, Shell House, Donda's future world, cabinets of curiosities and plenty of ideas that haven't even appeared yet.
There would be beautiful things — and ridiculous things.
There would even be a Hall of Bad Ideas, because failure deserves an exhibition too.
I want it to feel less like visiting a museum and more like entering another world for a few hours.
A place where you can touch things.
Make things.
Laugh.
Eat.
Explore.
Sit quietly.
Watch a film.
Meet an artist.
Discover a story.
And perhaps leave wanting to make something yourself.
Maybe it never gets built exactly like this.
That's rather the point.
THE UNFINISHED MUSEUM
Part museum. Part workshop. Part adventure.
Exhibition unfinished.
