A lighthearted exploration of wild places, spiritual music, poetry, stories — and cold water.

Psalms & Swims is a video series following Shug the Monk as he heads into the landscape for wild swims and unexpected journeys.

Each episode starts with a place, but there isn't always much of a plan. Along the way Shug explores poetry, music, faith, history, nature and the lives of the people he meets. Sometimes he plays the hang drum. Sometimes he sits quietly. Sometimes an ancient story leads somewhere completely unexpected. And, sooner or later, he generally ends up in the water.

The series moves between Scotland's beaches, islands and wild landscapes, while occasionally wandering much further afield — even into imagined futures.

AI is openly used as part of the creative process: helping with music, narration, animation and storytelling, while real landscapes, swims, conversations and encounters remain at the heart of the films.

There are no sermons and no requirement to believe anything in particular. Psalms & Swims is simply an invitation to explore some of the things humans have used for centuries to make sense of being here: stories, songs, landscape, ritual, creativity, community and a bit of silliness.
